Our Classrooms

At Bardfield Montessori our three classrooms work harmoniously to support the learning and development of all children at a range of ages. We care for children aged 6 months to 5 years.

Our Montessori curriculum fosters mixed aged environments so that younger children can naturally learn from the older children and where teachers encourage children of all ages to work together. We are proud of our strong community sense, where older children are role models to those younger than them.

When it is time for children to transition into the next classroom with more appropriate materials, you will notice this change to be seamless as each classroom instils the skills of independence, patience, and respect. During your child’s time with us, they will have one transition between the Nursery and Pre-school room for the purpose of continuity, security and only impact their development in a positive way.

Nursery Room 1 and 2

Known as the ‘Nido’ in the Montessori school, it means nest in Italian. A nest for warmth, comfort and security for the very youngest of children. Our upstairs nursery class begins from 6 months old and caters to 2 and half years and is calming, soft and nurturing with caring staff.

The open, spacious environment boasts a wide range of activities to support curious minds and physical development on the indoor apparatus.

Children have direct access to the garden at the bottom of our stairs where they can learn to manoeuvre steps and develop their coordination as they move into a garden specifically designed for them, it is accessible via a ramp so those who are crawling and shuffling can access the area independently too

Nursery Room 2

We are fortunate enough to have two small nursery rooms for children aged between 6 months and 2 and a half years to thrive in this carefully prepared environment. Both Nursery Rooms have a team of dedicated staff who are uniquely trained in the care and development for the youngest of children.

Our downstairs nursery room has direct access into the garden where children can freely move between the indoor and outdoor environments, using climbing frames, carefully designed ramps and explore.

Pre-School

The preschool class boasts a wide range of enriching activities for the children to learn and explore. Access to high quality teaching and materials allows for our preschool children to absorb information about the wider world. The children enjoy thinking and learning critically using specialist Montessori equipment that enhances their learning of math, literacy, science and more.

It is often noted how calm and quiet our environment is, you will notice the children all busy within their work cycle, enjoying their independence within their classroom.

Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and when the grass of the meadows is wet with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning.

The Outdoor Cabin

Nesting at the end of our garden lies our spacious, open cabin where the children can learn surrounded by nature.

This space is an additional extra and can be enjoyed by the children who may want to learn in a quieter, calming environment.

This space is set up similarly to our pre-school class, where children can access all areas of the Montessori curriculum.

The Resting Room

In addition to our classrooms, we have a dedicated sleep room where young children can rest comfortably when needed. This quiet and cosy space features warm lighting and calming sounds to help them feel at home. We respect each family’s sleep routine, and our skilled staff are trained in safer sleep practices to ensure a safe and secure environment for every child.
