Our Curriculum

Montessori Education

At the essence of Montessori is that every child is treated with care, patience and respect, encouraging them to become independent and confident learners. Our nursery ensures children are free to respond to their natural tendency to work, with opportunities to self-access activities in response to their interests.

The Montessori Method of education was pioneered by Maria Montessori. She created a method of education that would inspire children to learn and instil a love for learning.

The Montessori philosophy values the development of the whole child; physical, social, emotional and cognitive. To support this development she advocated a learning environment that enabled children opportunities to learn through doing and with the freedom to follow their own development journey, supporting the individual personalities of each individual child.

It was Maria Montessori’s belief that children who are at liberty to choose and learn independently within a carefully prepared environment would act spontaneously for optimal development.

The essence of independence is to be able to do something for one’s self. Adults work to finish a task, but the child works in order to grow, and is working to create the adult, the person that is to be. Such experience is not just play, it is work he must do in order to grow up.

What we do at Bardfield Montessori

At Bardfield Montessori Nursery we offer an opportunity for children to learn, develop and meet their individual needs using the Montessori method of education.

The environment is entirely child-centred, and the team of experienced educators work with every child following their natural development. Our highly qualified staff team seamlessly combine the ethos of Montessori education with an ambitious curriculum to help all children to make exceptional levels of progress.

They actively encourage the use of the substantial outside area at the nursery. The children grow their own vegetables, fruits and flowers. The children care for the pets, giving them an understanding of the fundamental needs of living things. They also have the opportunity to spend time learning in a forest school, working very closely with nature.
